Max Tundra is the alias of London-born musician Ben Jacobs, a visionary artist whose mutated approach to DIY electronic pop music in the early 2000s helped pave the way for today's most progressive experimental pop acts. While he hasn't released a studio album in over 14 years, it's easy to trace the genre-blurring techniques he showcased on his three full-length albums -- 2000's Some Best Friend You Turned Out To Be, 2002's Mastered By Guy At the Exchange, 2008's Parallax Error Beheads You – to the current wave of boundary-pushing hyper-pop artists and futuristic electronic-pop producers. In celebration of Max's pivotal discography, Domino Records reissued all three albums on vinyl this past summer and unveiled Remixtape, an eclectic 8-track remix collection that finds artists such as A. G. Cook, Kero Kero Bonito, Julia Holter, and Katie Dey reworking Max's tracks into their own singular terrain.
Max's exclusive guest DJ mix for Midnight In A Perfect World is a colorful and ebullient journey through maximal synth-pop, inventive avant-pop, and experimental styles that's full of -- as Max puts it -- "mechanically reclaimed treats!"
