Grammy-nominated artist Georgia Anne Muldrow returns this Spring with the third installment in her VWETO hip hop beat series, a collection of tracks that capture "deep and vibe-heavy hip hop beatscapes."
“I was listening to an Isaac Hayes LP where even the reverb had grain and texture. I want my music to create an environment”, she explained via a press release. “VWETO III is intended for movement. It’s to be played when you birth yourself back outside after a long introspective period to get the things you need. It intends for you to be your own superhero and wants to be your theme for power.”
She announces the latest volume with the premiere of the track “Mufaro’s Garden,” a song inspired by John Steptoe's 1987 award-winning children's book Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters: An African Tale.
“There’s a frame in that book that’s so amazing, of Mufaro looking over his garden which joins with the rest of the land, and in the far distance, you can see the historic sight of Great Zimbabwe. I remember as a child spending hours just looking at this picture, wishing I could go there,” she recalls.
With all the songs on VWETO III, Muldrow encourages creatives from around the world to engage with her music. With this particular single, she pondered what this imaginary garden would sound like, and now she invites any and all artists to submit their vision on social media by hashtagging #VWETOIII and tagging @Georgia.Muldrow and @Foreseenent.
The album artwork (as seen here) was created by Cape Town-based artist Breeze Yoko. Starting today, you can bid in an online auction for one NFT of the LP and its artwork. Bidding ends on May 21st when the album is released, with 50% of the proceeds being donated to Critical Resistance, an international movement to end the Prison Industrial Complex. The piece is available for auction on OpenSea and Rariable.
VWETO III will be released May 21st via FORESEEN Entertainment and Muldrow’s own Epistrophik Peach Sound imprint.
