Welcome to the latest edition of Feedback, a look (down) at the pedal boards and equipment of some of our favorite musicians. Today, KEXP's Owen Murphy reaches out to Thomas Mudrick, whose newest project is called Mother Mariposa.
Mother Mariposa play tomorrow night, Saturday, April 27th, as part of the Seagaze Festival, a four-day shoegaze, post-punk, and psych-rock extravaganza held on April 18–19 & April 24–28 at the Lo-Fi Performance Gallery. If you missed the four-hour celebration of the genre on The Morning Show on KEXP, you can still listen via KEXP's Two-Week Streaming Archive [stream expires: 5/9/19], and check out previous editions of Feedback for more gear geekery.
The Echo Master by Death by Audio is my favorite pedal right now because it's an analog tape-style delay that transforms the delay sound into a chaotic realm of noise and feedback. Mother Mariposa have been using it recently in our shows with Italy's New Candys, Pete International Airport, and Black Mountain. When I played the Wiltern in LA opening for A Place to Bury Strangers, I was blown away by the sonic intensity of the the band through Oli Ackermann's masterful pedal designs. I love the washes of sound and distorted layers that happen when masters like Kevin Shields, Peter Holmstrom, or William Reid do their voodoo.

Coulter Leslie of Seattle band the National Honor Society shares his favorite guitar pedal with KEXP.
Matt Levine of Soft Science shares what he's gazing at in this latest edition of Feedback.
