Lo nuevo de El Shirota, banda mexicana que participó de nuestro primer KEXP Mexico, confirma en cada nueva canción que juegan de locales en Seattle. Una de nuestras bandas preferidas nacidas en Chiluca hizo una excelente presentación sobre el escenario del Freakout Fest donde DJ Chilly de El Sonido curó uno de estos espacios. “Más de Una Vez” es su nuevo sencillo y entra tranquilamente como una de las canciones del año.
Desde su ep debut titulado Suceso en la Plaza (2017), la banda de San José de Costa Rica ha tomado nuestra atención pero fue durante el 2019 que comenzaste a escucharlos en KEXP con su sencillo “Luces Violetas”. Ahí la banda consolidaba su muestra de noise pop y shoegaze que los ha hecho tocar con lo mejor de la escena indie rock de América Latina. Con esta nueva canción, “Recuerdos”, Dylan Thomas vuelve a nuestros oídos dejándonos listos para recibir lo que será su EP Algunos Recuerdos Distantes, que se lanzará este viernes 29 de noviembre.
Una de las mejores propuestas musicales actuales del caribe es, sin lugar a dudas, MULA. El trío de República Dominicana viene recorriendo el continente y el mundo entero entregando una mezcla futurista que sacude con respeto las presencias continuas de dembow jamaiquino, merengue y música electrónica. “Y Ahora” es su nuevo sencillo y la primera probada de lo que será su próximo álbum, una de las producciones más esperadas para los primeros meses de 2020.
La nueva canción de Xenia Rubinos, “Diosa”, llegó dentro de una entrega doble donde se incluye también "BUGEISHA". Ambas canciones se comunican una con otra y, en las propias palabras de la artista, fueron preparadas con una “agresividad” más marcada que sus trabajos anteriores. En “Diosa”, Xenia explica que quiere lograr alentar nuestro empoderamiento femenino y belleza multicolor y por supuesto que lo logra. La artista americana con raíces en Puerto Rico y Cuba dispara en el desenlace del 2019, dos balas musicales visionarias que representan el aquelarre femenino donde ya no estamos solas, nos tenemos unas a otras. Estén preparados.
El puente que trazamos para esta semana tiene a Colombia como destino de nuestro abrazo musical. Sería imposible poder describir en un párrafo la riqueza que tiene esta tierra y su gente pero intentaremos hacer un bosquejo entre dos proyectos musicales actuales que han pasado por nuestros estudios de KEXP Seattle. Ambos representan, con sus estilos, dos lados de una misma identidad. Comenzaremos con Canalón de Timbiquí, agrupación de música tradicional del Pacífico liderada por la talentosa Nidia Góngora. CDT cuida la vigencia de la música de marimba y la ancestralidad del Pacífico desde la década del 70 traspasando su cultura de generación en generación. Vuelve a ver su sesión en KEXP:
Otro de los proyectos que cuida la ancestralidad de los sabores tradicionales de Colombia pero con ingredientes contemporáneos y visionarios for export es Combo Chimbita. La banda que lanzó uno de los discos del año en 2019 llamado Ahomale, se ha transformado en una de las expresiones más frescas de la nueva música latina. Actualmente tienen base en Nueva York. One of the best current musical proposals of the Caribbean is, without a doubt, MULA. The trio of the Dominican Republic has traveled the continent and the whole world, delivering a futuristic mix that shakes respectfully the continuous presences of Jamaican dembow, merengue, and electronic music. “Y Ahora” is their new single and the first proof of what will be their next album, one of the most anticipated productions for the first months of 2020.
Xenia Rubinos' new song, “Diosa”, came in a double installment which also includes "BUGEISHA". Both songs communicate with each other and, in the artist's own words, were prepared with a more marked "aggressiveness" than her previous works. In “Diosa”, Xenia explains that she wants to encourage our feminine empowerment and multicolored beauty and of course she succeeds. The American artist with roots in Puerto Rico and Cuba fires in the end of 2019, two visionary musical bullets that represent the female coven where we are no longer alone, we have each other. Be ready.
The bridge we draw for this week has Colombia as the destination of our musical hug. It would be impossible to describe in a paragraph the wealth that this land and its people have but we will try to sketch between two current musical projects that went through our studies of KEXP Seattle. Both represent, with their styles, two sides of the same identity. We will start with Canalón de Timbiquí, a group of traditional Pacific music led by the talented Nidia Góngora. CDT takes care of the validity of marimba music and the ancestrality of the Pacific since the 70s, passing on their culture from generation to generation.

Another project that takes care of the ancestrality of traditional Colombian flavors but with contemporary and visionary ingredients for export is Combo Chimbita. The band that released one of the albums of the year in 2019 called Ahomale, has become one of the coolest expressions of new Latin music. They are currently based in New York.
