For the past couple weeks, Mac DeMarco has been livestreaming his studio sessions on a secret YouTube channel called CAM TONY. Not much beyond messing around or working on partial snippets of songs has come out of the sessions, except for the other day when DeMarco played a cover of “Honey Moon” by Japanese musician Haruomi Hosono. Reddit user ubergooberz took it upon themselves to upload the cover to YouTube today. DeMarco’s last full-length was This Old Dog, released last year. [ Paste ]
Britpop band Suede are releasing their eighth album in two and a half decades and third since reuniting in 2010, The Blue Hour, in September. Today, they shared the second single off the album, “Don’t Be Afraid If Nobody Loves You.” The song follows last month’s “The Invisibles.” Frontman Brett Anderson previously said of the album: “I think we're at this stage of our career where it doesn't really matter what we do, as long as we're engaged in doing it and making it interesting. Because of that, we can do quite extreme things. This is a very complicated record, much more so than the last too - and more diverse. It's quite a journey. There are a lot of elements that we haven't used before, like a choir and more spoken word and dialogue. There are a lot of field recordings on it too to thread the ideas together." The Blue Hour is out September 21 on Rhino. [ Under the Radar ]
Orlando Higginbottom recently revived his Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs project with the release of the single “Leave a Light.” Today, he’s followed it up with “Don’t You Forget About Me.” The nearly six-minute track features guitar by Dave Okumu of The Insivible and was produced by Maroon 5’s producer Julian Bunetta, making for a very slick and groovy single. TEED only studio album, Trouble, was released in 2012. [ Stereogum ]
Next week, The Internet will release their anticipated sophomore album, Hive Mind. So far, they’ve shared the singles “Roll (Burbank Funk)” and “Come Over.” Today, they’ve unveiled one more for us before they drop the record, “La Di Da.” The effortlessly funky single comes from no outside influences beyond the members of the band. "A hive mind is a collective ego," says member Matt Martians about the album title. "When people are together, they have a collective mindset. When we're together, we all have a common goal and we move in the same direction." Hive Mind follows 2015’s Ego Death and is out July 20 via Columbia. [ Pigeons & Planes ]
