Last month Upstream Music Fest + Summit announced the full lineup of artists playing this year’s festival with acts like Jawbreaker, Miguel, The Flaming Lips and more. Now today they’ve divulged the names of the first round of artists and sessions that will be featured at this year’s Summit on June 1 – including the likes of local favorites Odesza, Sango, and Sub Pop.
This year the Summit will be limited to just the first day of the fest with sessions taking place across the Upstream venues in Pioneer Square. The sessions are broken into four major themes: Artist Journeys, Indie Market, and New Music Ecosystem. In Artist Journeys, acts like Odesza and their manager Adam Foley will speak on the importance of touring and detailing how they’ve built up their own live show. Meanwhile, Cinderella drummer Fred Coury sits down with Nicole Brodeur to talk about how he’s reinvented his career from the drum throne to composing scores and developing sound for sports teams like the LA Kings and Portland Trail Blazers.
Indie Market focuses on the tools artists need to succeed. In these sessions you’ll hear panels from Sango and Sassyblack talking with producers Larry Crane and Eric Lilavois breaking down the different approaches to record your music – from DIY setups to professional studios. The Gods Themselves’ Astra Elane will also set down with a team of attorneys to discuss navigating the complicated legal world of licensing your music and making sure your work is protected. New Music Ecosystem focuses on how data is shaping the music industry. Sub Pop VP of A&R Tony Kiewel, CASH Music’s Maggie Vail, and Add3's Brian Rauschenbach discussing how data is changing everything for labels, artists and digital agencies. Meanwhile, Next Big Sound’s Sam Pucci will go over case studies of how artists have been impacted by the new data norms.
There will also be a drop-in wellness fair helmed by MusicCares for self-care and will provide resources for everything from health checks, help with insurance, and counseling services. MusiCares will also be doing hearing tests and providing personalized ear plugs molded to your ears.
