Welcome to Review Revue, where every Thursday I dig through the KEXP stacks to share DJ reviews and comments written on the covers of LPs (and occasionally CDs) in the ’80s and ’90s, when the station was called KCMU, the DJs were volunteers, and people shared their opinions on little white labels instead of the internet.
I pretty much said everything I had to say about Bauhaus on this The Sky's Gone Out post in 2011 (although apparently, I thought it was 2012), but that shouldn't stop me from sharing another of their records. They were obviously a topic of much discussion here during -- and after -- their tenure, and the object of great affection for at least one DJ: Faith, who is mentioned by name on I think every single Bauhaus album cover in KEXP's collection, usually because the current copy is a replacement, donated by Faith, for the one somebody stole.
Nobody stole Burning from the Inside, it would appear, but let's take that as a token of respect, not disregard. And do take a moment to enjoy the gentle ribbing one of Faith's fellow DJs gives her here.
Bauhaus is no more, of course, but you can catch some of its members in various formations: David J appears to be touring like, right now (playing Portland this Saturday! Played a living room show last Friday!); Peter Murphy appears to be playing a million gigs at the Chapel in San Francisco in June; and I'm not sure what Daniel and Kevin are up to, but I hope they're having a lovely time of it.
