Reykjavik Calling is finally upon us! The event, which has served as a bridge between our city and the Icelandic capital, will take place in the Gathering Space this Saturday evening (that's tomorrow) and will feature Icelandic artists Vök, whose debut LP Figure, received the award for Best Electronic Album of the Year at the 2018 Icelandic Music Awards, and Gyda, whose sophomore album Evolution will be released today on figure eight records. Of course, the event will have local representation as well, with Seattle electronic duo NAVVI – who released the spiritually immersive album ULTRA (click here to read about the release in their own words) – rounding out the bill. Doors for the event open at 7 pm, show starts at 8.
Earlier in the day, the Gathering Space will hold an Iceland Day celebration, commemorating 100 years of Icelandic independence. All things Iceland will be showcased at KEXP’s Gathering Space during this day of celebration, including presentations and discussions, focused on Iceland’s independence, geothermal energy, design and literature. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn firsthand about some of Iceland’s top businesses and exports from companies including Icelandair, Icelandic Provisions, Brennivin, Reyka Vodka, Blue Lagoon, Icelandic Glacial, and Landsvirkjun. Our Iceland Day celebration will be held from 12 pm to 3.
Because we are so very excited for performance from Vök and Gyda, we sent each group a short questionnaire.
