Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s song, featured on The Midday Show with Cheryl Waters, is “How It Feels” by Ages & Ages, a single available via Partisan Records.

Ages & Ages – How It Feels (MP3)

Hailing from Portland, Oregon, indie darlings Ages & Ages bring their hand-clapping, hope-soaked sound to latest single “How It Feels,” a peppy little number built on a bed of ethereal choral harmonies, sunny synth stabs, Casiotone baubles, and ‘60s-inflected, spidery guitar runs.

It’s a chirpier turn for a band who kept a toe dipped into life’s darker side on their album Alright You Restless. With its ambling melody and soul-laid-bare lyrics (“But I wanted to tell you how it feels/Well, my problems are irrelevant/It doesn’t make it any less real”), “How It Feels” shows a new angle to Ages & Ages that suits them well. One to keep the Winter blues at bay.

Keep up with news and live dates from Ages & Ages via their website, and check out their visit to KEXP from a few years ago.
