  • Beck has shared a new (but not first) cover of The Velvet Underground's "I'm Waiting For The Man," off The Velvet Underground and Nico. The song is for Spotify's "Music Happens Here" series, which has previously included songs from Local Natives, Twin Peaks, and Allen Stone. Beck previously recorded a cover of "I'm Waiting For The Man" back in 2009 when he was doing an online project called Record Club, where he would gather a group of fellow musicians to cover entire albums. The first one they covered was The Velvet Underground and Nico. Beck released Colors last year on Capitol Records. [ SPIN ]
  • Kevin Morby and Waxahatchee's Katie Crutchfield have combined forces to cover two of their favorite songs from Jason Molina's band Songs: Ohia, "Farewell Transmission" (from 2003's The Magnolia Electric Co.) and "The Dark Don't Hide It" (from 2005's What Comes After the Blues). In a lengthy statement from Morby, the lackadaisical musician claims to have bonded with Crutchfield while on tour with Waxahatchee over their shared love for Molina. "He’s a true inspiration and there’s no other songwriter or vocalist quite like him. We are deeply honored to be able to sing his songs, and we do hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed creating them." Both artists released new albums last year. Morby released City Music via Dead Oceans in 2017 and Waxahatchee released Out in the Storm via Merge. [ Under the Radar ]
  • German DJ and producer DJ Koze is returning with his first album since 2013's Amygdala this May. Entitled Knock Knock, Koze has enlisted some big names to guest on the album, including Bon Iver, Róisín Murphy, José González, Lambchop’s Kurt Wagner, Mano Le Tough, and rapper Speech from Arrested Development. Today he's shared the single "Seeing Aliens" and its B-side "Nein König Nein." The album will be released on his label Pampa. [ Pitchfork ]
  • New Orleans rapper Lil Wayne has been sharing singles off his upcoming mixtape Dedication 6 Reloaded at a quick clip. Last night, Wayne followed the recently released singles "Family Feud" and "Big Bad Wolf" with another track off the album, "Bloody Mary" with features Juelz Santana. The two were supposed to release a collaborative album called I Can't Feel My Face almost a decade ago and Santana recently teased that it may possibly finally see the light of day sometime this year. A release date for Dedication 6 Reloaded has not yet been announced. [ Complex ]
  • John Dwyer has been a very busy man, releasing two different Thee Oh Sees albums last year (under two different iterations of the band name), as well as a slightly overlooked album for his side project Damaged Bug, called Bunker Funk. Today he's shared an outtake from Bunker Funk called "Pilot's Pipe" which is going to be included on an upcoming benefit compilation, Our Voltage. Proceeds from the 14-track compilation will go towards funding legal aid for anti-racists activists, as well as benefitting a self-defense gym in Chicago called the Haymaker Gym. Our Voltage is out March 1 via Girlsville.
