Stas THEE Boss lives up to her name. When she's on the stage, she's in total control. It'd been awhile since I'd seen the former THEESatisfaction MC hop on the mic, but seeing her DJ around town (and on KEXP's Street Sounds) has continued to prove that she has impeccable taste and style.
Performing many of the tracks from her latest LP, S'WOMEN, it became immediately clear that she's still that cool, confident rapper who caught notice with awE naturalE. The way she moves on the stage is hypnotic, moving from one place to the next was otherworldly -- a confident strut that was fluid and sly. She brought along some local talent to help her out as well, including JusMoni as one of her backing vocalists. Bringing on a dancer to the stage for a large chunk of the performance made the set a celebration of arts across the board. If this set at the Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival proved anything it's that Stas deserves more of these main stage slots. Seeing the tracks from S'WOMEN come to life was easily one of the most inspiring and thrilling things I saw all weekend.
