Earlier on into Ruler's afternoon set at Memorial Stadium, lead vocalist and songwriter Matt Batey asked the crowd who they were camped out for, greeted with an almost unanimous scream of "LORDE!" Batey and co. welcomed the reaction, seemingly reveling in the idea that they were playing on such a large stage at all at the Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival.
If they hadn't mentioned anything, you'd have assumed the band played this large of an event on a regular basis. Their power pop hooks and booming guitar riffs felt appropriate for the massive setting, with the band filling up all the space they could with sound. Spectators may have been there to see their Lorde and savior, but there's no doubt some left as Ruler fans. The crowd soaked up every catchy melody Batey through at them, loudly cheering and applauding at the end of every song. Batey mentioned that the band is working on their debut LP. By then, who knows what type of stages they'll be playing. It's all up from here.
