  • Grant Hart, drummer , songwriter, and co-lead singer for the influential rock band Hüsker Dü, has died. He was 56 years old. The cause of death has not been announced, but he had reportedly been fighting cancer. Bob Mould confirmed the news via Facebook. The Minneapolis band was formed in 1979 by Hart, Mould, and bassist Greg Norton. The three started releasing music in 1981 and their breakthrough album was 1984's Zen Arcade, shortly after which they signed to Warner Bros. The band was at the peak of their popularity when they split in early 1988. [ Variety ]
  • London-based indie pop band The Clientele are releasing their comeback album Music For The Age Of Miracles on September 22 via Merge. They've previously shared the songs "Lunar Days" and "Everyone You Meet." Today they've revealed the sprawling, seven-minute third single, "Everything You See Tonight Is Different From Itself." The Clientele's last album was 2010's Minotaur. Catch the band when they stop by Seattle on Thursday, November 9 to play Neumos. [ Stereogum ]
  • Canadian indie rock collective Broken Social Scene returned from a seven year hiatus to release Hug Of Thunder earlier this summer. Early single "Skyline" has now gotten the video treatment. Directed by Kevin Drew, the clip portrays the friendship between BSS's Brendan Canning  and skate photographer Dimitri Karakosta, with a quotable declaration made, "There are only three things in this world that I truly love, that I truly hold dear. Peanut butter, my best friend, and Foreigner." Broken Social Scene will play a two-night stint at the Neptune on Sunday, October 22 and Monday, October 23. [ Exclaim! ]
  • Formerly anonymous dubstep producer Burial has surprise released a new single called "Rodent" today on Hyperdub along with a remix from label boss Kode9. The single is available digitally now and will be released on 10" vinyl on September 22. This is the third release from Burial this year, after the Subtemple EP and a remix of Goldie's "Inner City Life" on his MetalHeadz label. [ The FADER ]
  • Montreal's Blue Hawaii are releasing their third album Tenderness next month. They've previously shared the single "No One Like You" and today we received the second single, "Versus Game," along with a video. Directed by the band, the clip features Blue Hawaii's Raphaelle Standell-Preston playing with a giant beach ball. Tenderness is out October 6 on Arbutus Records. [ Gorilla vs. Bear ]
