This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJ’s think you should hear. Today’s song, featured on The Midday Show with Cheryl Waters, is “Above the Triangle” by Au.Ra from the 2017 album Cultivations on Lefse Records.
Au.Ra - Above the Triangle (MP3)
By sounds swampy and psychedelic, we sway above the mire in a siren of synths. It’s dark and hot, but there’s something in the air that cools. This is Au.Ra’s new track "Above the Triangle" beckoning. It promises a great balance of space and texture, dreamy vocals spouting dreamy words, and a straight shot of a drumbeat that comforts as much as it drives away. The Sydney duo's new album, Cultivations, is a host to this and many other warm and curious tracks.
For their sophomore album, band members Tim Jenkins and Tom Crandles lean more on electronics to evoke their ethereal sound. It will come as no surprise that the two cite Cocteau Twins and My Bloody Valentine as influences.
No U.S. tour dates yet, but you can follow the band on Facebook to be kept in the loop. In the meantime, check out the video for another track from the LP, "Pulse."
