Beaches - When You're Gone (MP3)
Since forming in 2008, Melbourne-based psych band Beaches have made major waves. Both their self-titled debut and 2013 follow-up She Beats earned nominations for the Australian Music Award, noted Australian singer-songwriter Jen Cloher recently professed her fandom, and Krautrock pioneer Michael Rother (Neu!, Kraftwerk) played on their last album. Last Friday, Beaches released their third album, Second of Spring, a seventeen-song, psych-noise epic.
Today’s Song of the Day provides a blast of summer vibes to last you well into the winter. Simply put, it's one of the catchiest cuts on Beaches’ new double LP. Complete with fast and fuzzy guitarwork and Ramones-like floor tom pounding, “When You’re Gone” is the garage rock exception to Second of Spring’s noise rock leanings. Though the vocals sound distant, lyrics coming at you like a mirage, that won’t stop you from singing along. Hit play and prepare for your day to get brighter.
Keep up with the band via their Bandcamp and Facebook, and enjoy the brand new video for "Void," below.
