David Lynch loves music the way "Big" Ed Hurley, Jr. loves Norma, and it's reflected in the soundtrack for Showtime's Twin Peaks: The Return. Most of the episodes end with a band performing at the Bang Bang Bar aka The Roadhouse, the local bar in the city of Twin Peaks.
In an ongoing weekly series of exclusive interviews, KEXP's resident Twin Peaks expert DJ Morgan will chat with the show's music director Dean Hurley (no relation). Hurley has collaborated extensively with David Lynch on sound design and music, and since 2005, has operated Asymmetrical Studio, Lynch's recording studio and film dubbing facility located in the Hollywood Hills. Over on Twitter, it's being said that David Lynch and co-producer Mark Frost have "rick-rolled" us with the return of "Just You," a song written by Lynch and show composer Angelo Badalamenti. The song originally appeared in episode 2, season 2, which aired October 6, 1990, as James Hurley, Laura Palmer's secret boyfriend, performs the song in the Hayward family living room with Laura's cousin Maddy and Donna Hayward, Laura's best friend. In episode 13 of Twin Peaks: The Return, James performs the song at The Roadhouse, accompanied by two dark-haired women, echoing his original backing singers Maddy and Donna.
