David Lynch's love for music is almost as strong as Agent Cooper's love for coffee (welcome back!), and it's reflected in the soundtrack for Showtime's Twin Peaks: The Return. Most of the episodes end with a band performing at the Bang Bang Bar aka The Roadhouse, the local bar in the city of Twin Peaks.

In an ongoing weekly series of exclusive interviews, KEXP's resident Twin Peaks expert DJ Morgan will chat with the show's music director Dean Hurley. Hurley has collaborated extensively with David Lynch on sound design and music, and since 2005, has operated Asymmetrical Studio, Lynch's recording studio and film dubbing facility located in the Hollywood Hills. Tune in every Monday at 8:00 AM PT to The Morning Show on KEXP, as Morgan and John Richards air excerpts from her chats with Hurley. View previous chats in the series here on the KEXP Blog.

We knew that Eddie Vedder was going to be on this season of Twin Peaks, but we didn't know when. (It was even speculated that he was the guy sweeping the floors in The Roadhouse in Episode 7.) Tonight, the tuxedo'ed host of The Roadhouse introduced Edward Louis Severson III (Vedder's real name) to the stage for a beautiful acoustic performance of "Out of Sand," a song written especially for the show. The chorus of "And I am who I am / Who I was I will never be again" seems inspired by Dougie Jones, doesn't it? In this very special chat, Hurley talks about how Eddie came to be on the show (Thanks, Diane!), and what it was like working with him. He also talks about the return of "Audrey's Dance," the now-iconic instrumental composed by Angelo Badalamenti for the original series. Listen below, and scroll down some more for a great chat between Lynch and Vedder from 2009:

Twin Peaks: The Return airs every Sunday night at 9:00 PM ET/PT on Showtime.

On September 8th, Rhino will release two soundtrack collections: Twin Peaks (Music From the Limited Event Series) featuring performances from The Roadhouse and Twin Peaks (Limited Event Series Original Soundtrack) featuring the score by composer Angelo Badalamenti.
