David Lynch loves music the way Dougie Jones loves coffee, and it's reflected in the soundtrack for Showtime's Twin Peaks: The Return. Most of the episodes end with a band performing at the Bang Bang Bar aka The Roadhouse, the local bar in the city of Twin Peaks.
In an ongoing weekly series of exclusive interviews, KEXP's resident Twin Peaks expert DJ Morgan will chat with the show's music director Dean Hurley. Hurley has collaborated extensively with David Lynch on sound design and music, and since 2005, has operated Asymmetrical Studio, Lynch's recording studio and film dubbing facility located in the Hollywood Hills. One of the most talked about musical guests of the season appeared on one of the most talked about episodes ever: Nine Inch Nails on episode 8 of Twin Peaks: The Return. While most of the show was a swirl of surreal imagery -- from an atomic bomb to the face of Laura Palmer to, of course, BOB -- in the first half of the show, the band performs at The Roadhouse, introduced by a tuxedo'ed host as "The Nine Inch Nails." The group then proceed to tear into a nearly-five-minutes-long menacing performance of “She’s Gone Away,” off 2016’s Not the Actual Events EP. In the clip below, Hurley gives history to Lynch's relationship with frontman Trent Reznor.
And, on Wednesday, August 2nd at 8:00 AM, KEXP will air an exclusive interview with Reznor himself on The Morning Show on KEXP. John Richards will talk with Reznor about his performance on the show, being an artist in our current political climate, and the new EP, Add Violence, out now on The Null Corporation.

On September 8th, Rhino will release two soundtrack collections: Twin Peaks (Music From the Limited Event Series) featuring performances from The Roadhouse and Twin Peaks (Limited Event Series Original Soundtrack) featuring the score by composer Angelo Badalamenti.
