Listening to Bread & Butter is the aural equivalent of the proverbial "cracking open a cold one with the boys." The vibrant guitar hooks, the upbeat rhythms, and the shout-along melodies are basically pre-packaged to be your ultimate summer soundtrack. In the new video for "Cool in the Water", from their recently released self-titled debut on Killroom Records, they take these ideas to their logical conclusion: cans of Rainier, sunshine, a swimming pool, and hijinks.
Before we get into all the fun, the video opens with an eerie black and white shot of lead singer Shane Herrell passed out in a kiddie pool full of cans of beer while moody guitars shimmer in the background. Abruptly, "Cool in the Water" kicks in and everything shifts to a colorful, vibrant pool party. Beers are bursting, dogs are swimming, and — hey, is that DJ Troy Nelson jumping through a hula hoop? Intermittently throughout the video, we see the band as captains of a hand drawn ship, wearing their finest boating attire. Whether it's a plastic pool on asphalt, out on the open seas, or kicking it with friends in the backyard, Bread & Butter are innovators at finding new ways to staying cool... in the water. There's really only one question remaining: how do we get an invite to their next pool party?
