If there is one thing Sasquatch crowds seem to agree on, it is that Thee Oh Sees are awesome. Fronted by the quite charismatic multi-instrumentalist John Dwyer, Thee Oh Sees tore up the Bigfoot Stage on Day One of 2017's Sasquatch Music Festival, resulting in a sweaty, bro-laden mosh pit and necessary crowd surfing. In this iteration of the band, Dwyer is joined by two drummers ontage, one who looks like Dan Bejar (Destroyer, New Pornographers), and one who looks like Tom Scharpling (The Best Show). Dwyer, himself, has started to resemble a young Marlon Brando in On the Waterfront, albeit a Brando recast as a garage rock hero. The band proved in particularly good form in the 80+ degree heat, playing a number of tracks from their two 2016 releases A Weird Exits and An Odd Entrances, as well as fan favorites like "I Come From the Mountain" and "The Dream."
It remains quite remarkable to just watch Thee Oh Sees play music. John Dwyer constantly transitions between singing, intricate and emotional guitar work, and (what appears to be) a modular synth. In addition, Tim Hellman (of the great Sic Alps) holds down on bass, the dual drummers also acting as a counterpoint to Dwyer's manic energy. Overall, the band remains an absolute force live, and are a clear highlight of Sasquatch thus far.
