Seeing Gazebos in the daytime feels a rare occurrence. Usually found in a dimly-lit club, the Seattle band graced the Yeti Stage on Day 1 of this year's Sasquatch Music Festival, largely playing tracks from their 2016 debut record Die Alone. As the opening band of Sasquatch, Gazebos earned the dubious honor of playing to a small crowd while enduring the 80-degree Central/Eastern Washington heat. However, the band proved in good form, lead singer Shannon Perry pacing urgently around the Yeti stage, humorously proselytizing to audience members about the merits of sun screen, therapy, and feminism, among other topics.
Songs from Die Alone fully come alive in the live setting, the magnetism of Perry combined with a quite tight rhythm section (Kimberly Morrison and Tyler Swan) and wah-wah guitar stylings from TV Coahran. As a set closer, Perry belted out Grease's "There Are Worse Things I Could Do" (originally Rizzo's showstopper) as filtered through the collective Gazebos filter. Though early, the band created their own little bubble amidst Sasquatch Music Festival, much to the audience's collective delight.
