Ever since moving to Seattle from Lansing, Michigan, in 1989, Shomari Shanks (a.k.a. DJ Sho Nuph (f.k.a. Sho Nuff) has been immersed within the local music community, first connecting with seminal 1990s local hip-hop crew Tribal Music before diving into the electronic music scene in the early 2000s. Heavily active within the vibrant jungle/d&b community during this time, Sho became a staple at parties in venues all around town, whether it was keeping bodies moving from behind the decks or getting down on the dancefloor. Diagnosed with kidney failure in 2008, a battle he courageously continues to fight to this day, he continued to make his love for music a driving life force. His exclusive guest DJ mix for Midnight in a Perfect World is a stellar showcase for his smooth, slick, forward-looking style, fusing together a grip of contemporary underground club gems that blurs the lines between R&B, house, funk, spacious trap, and soul, while also sneaking in a pair of his own collaborative tracks.
