Today’s song, featured on the Morning Show with John Richards, is “Please, Let's Go Away," by Trementina, from their 2017 record, 810, out on Burger Records.
Trementina - Please, Let's Go Away (MP3)Chilean trio Trementina released their enigmatic debut record in March of 2017, which showed the band in a process of evolution. Different than the band's reverb-drenched early tracks, 810 shows the band exploring the poppier territory of shoegaze, lead singer Vanessa Cea's voice ringing at the forefront of the album mix. In recent years, various bands (think Pinkshinyultrablast, Japanese Breakfast or Alvvays) have created albums which exist in a grey area between intricate modern pop music and shoegaze. 810 acts as a continuation of that spirit, channeling foundational shoegaze groups like Slowdive while finding new ways of mixing walls of guitar and bass, with the melodic clarity provided by Cea's voice.
"Please, Let's Go Away," today's featured Song of the Day, kicks off the album with a burst of energy. Propellant percussion and a droning bass provide the track with a deep, resonant atmosphere, matched by the intertwined vocals from Cea and melodic guitar swirl from Cristobal Ortiz. The song slowly fades out, the listener left with a need to hear where Trementina can take them next.
Trementina do not have any announced US tour dates at this time. For more information, check out the band's Bandcamp and Facebook. Right now, watch the music video for album highlight "Oh Child" below.
