Song of the Day: Versing – Body Chamber

Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the day podcast subscription. Today’s song, featured on The Afternoon Show with Kevin Cole, is “Body Chamber” by Seattle band Versing from the 2017 album Nirvana, out now on Help Yourself Records.

The song begins on a somewhat familiar note, its drum and bass lines like an art rock inversion of “My Sharona.” As the guitars are unleashed and Daniel Solas’ clear, yet nonchalant vocals come in, the song ratchets into bright, energetic post-punk. The compellingly oblique lyrics explore one’s path to self-awareness in the face of impending disaster, or as Solas has referred to it, the “futile optimism” of our time.

One thing’s for sure: this track is best experienced LOUD! Almost half the five-minute song is instrumental, showcasing a fuzzy onslaught of guitars that’s at once collegial and combative, with waves of distortion howling like the winter’s wind. Solas ends the song facing assuredly towards the future, with the lyrics “A thousand miles beyond, and you open your eyes. And I saw what I wanted, and you saw what was right.”
