KEXP International Clash Day 2017

One Friday in February 2013, KEXP Morning Show host John Richards decided that one Clash song wasn’t enough, and so International Clash Day was born.

This year, KEXP observes the fifth annual International Clash Day on Tuesday, February 7th. This year we celebrate the Clash highlighting three ways they influenced change and awareness in society: The Morning Show will focus on the Clash messaging important ideas through radio broadcasts, The Midday Show will focus on how other cultures influenced the Clash, and The Afternoon Show will focus on protest through song.

This year we also celebrate all of the world governments that have declared International Clash Day an official holiday: The City of Seattle, The State of Washington, The City of San Francisco, The City of Vancouver, BC, The City of Austin, and potentially more on the way!

International Clash Day Events

• Bridgwater, UK: From 2 PM 'til 5 PM, visitors can enjoy Clash music and images in the Engine Room café in Bridgwater High Street with a live link to the KEXP radio station in Seattle. There will be live music in the cafe from Claude Sandiford plus a video link to Prague, from where the Leader of Bridgwater Town Council Brian Smedley will be joining in together with Czech musicians and Clash fans.

• Prague, CR: At the Cafe V Lese in Pragues Vrsovice district 3 PM 'til 6 PM, Leader of Bridgwater Town Council Brian Smedley will lead a discussion with Jiri Kobes, singer with the anarchic Czech 70’s band Plastic People of the Universe, a group that was constantly harassed by the Czech communist authorities at the time for deigning to be different and as a result the opposition movement that eventually became the velvet revolution gained one more cause to rally around. They will be discussing with Czech musicians, young and old, the influence of the Clash, the Plastic People, and whether music can actually change things.

• Austin, TX: Celebrate International Clash Day with KUTX 98.9 at The ABGB [Austin Beer Garden Brewing Co.] starting at 6:30 PM, with Rick Broussard's Two Hoots and a Holler, Migrant Kids, a dub DJ set, and special guests.

• Tucson, AZ: KXCI is celebrating on-air from 10 AM to 6 PM, and later that night at Che’s Lounge [350 N. 4th Ave.], DJs will be spinning Clash tunes, along with showcasing a special Clash-themed visual art show –- curated by bartender/local artist Donovan White -– as well as hosting a record sale of The Clash’s catalogue by Wooden Tooth Records.
