This week in El Sonido we’re going to share a variety of new music from Puerto Rico to Argentina, Costa Rica to right here in Seattle, Washington.
To kick it off we start with AJ Dávila of Terror/Amor and Dávila 666 fame. He’s got a solo record under his own name in the works, and “Post Tenebras Lux,” named after the 2012 Mexican film, is the first taste. It features Sergio Rotman of Los Fabulosos Cadillacs on sax and has that great pop scuzz that you’ve come to expect from AJ with more light complementing the dark. It’s a good look, check for the LP this Fall. If you need a bit more for now rewatch Terror/Amor’s KEXP live set from 2014 and Dávila 666 performance from 2011.
Up next, let’s head south to Argentina for the new telúrico digital record, Litoraleza, from Lauphan. I first noticed Lauphan after hearing El Buho drop his remix of “Gurisito Cósmico” live at Bahidorá a couple of months ago, and I’m sure glad I did. It’s a stellar piece of pop, folk and electronics.
This next video is winner. Wrestling bears in slow motion as a backdrop for some throat-shredding garage punk from San José, Costa Rica. “Desastre" comes off the new Los Crveles black svrf EP Ritmo Infernal and is my current favorite neck-breaker. Catástrofeeeee!
We’ll wrap it up here in our backyard with a mixtape from the Seattle homie Gnotes – his guest mix on El Sonido from April 4th that features a variety of Latin bass heaters.
Thanks for listening. See you next time.paz.
