This week in El Sonido, we’ll be talking about Vive Latino, a great music festival that happens every year in Mexico. It’s a wonderful way to see a wide variety of genres from Latin America mixed with artists from all over the world. Plus, it’s an outstanding excuse to visit the historical center and artistic hotbed known as Mexico City. It’s one of my favorite large-scale festivals in the world and I loved it all three years that I’ve gone. Read my 2011 review / 2012 preview of Vive here.
For this post, I’ll be doing a couple things: sharing exclusive video interviews from last year (in English y en español), previewing this year’s line-up AND telling you how you could win a trip there yourself via KEXP. 
In 2015, we teamed up with Mel Moncada, co-host of the radio show Sensor on Alfa 91.3 in Mexico, to capture a bunch of interviews from bands performing at Vive Latino that year. See a handful of my favorites below, and watch all of the videos here (in English y en español).

Vive Latino 2016 promises to be another great year. It goes down on April 23rd and 24th at Foro Sol in Mexico City and features some El Sonido favorites like Café Tacvba, Systema Solar, The Chamanas, Cultura Profética, Gepe, Disco Ruido as well as some KEXP favorites like Of Monsters and Men, Savages, Ibeyi and many more.
