Song of the Day: Deep Sea Diver - Secrets

She could have gone on running, continuing her life on the road as a touring member of indie rock wonders Beck and The Shins, but Jessica Dobson dropped down her roots in Seattle to form Deep Sea Diver instead. With bandmates Peter Mansell (drums), Garrett Gue (bass) and Elliot Jackson (guitars and keys), Dobson explores a wide range of experimental pop-rock, ever probing its depths though inventive combinations of interlacing guitar and keyboard melodies, atmospheric effects, propulsive rhythms, and Dobson's own resonant voice. Today's featured song, the title track to Deep Sea Diver's forthcoming sophomore LP, is a thrilling six-minute adventure that plumbs emotional depths while never losing the sonic landscape that's at times swooning, anthemic, turbulent and even tranquil. If "Secrets" is your first entry into Deep Sea Diver's domain, then the rest of their catalog and the new album to come should be a revelation.
