Song of the Gay: Holly Miranda - Mark My Words

Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. All this week we are celebrating Seattle Pride and PrideFest 2015 by featuring all LGBT artists for our "Song of the Gay" podcast. Today's featured song is "Mark My Words" by Holly Miranda from her self-titled 2015 album on Dangerbird Records.

“I can’t remember a time I wasn’t singing,” says veteran singer-songwriter Holly Miranda. “When I was little my older sisters used to make me lay on the floorboard of the car if I was going to sing, because my voice was so loud they said it felt like it was ‘inside of their heads.’ I’ll never stop making music. It’s the best therapy I’ve found.”

An active participant in the music scene since she was 16, Miranda has spent half her life on the road with acts including Tegan and Sara, Florence and the Machine, and the xx; more recently, played guitar with Karen O on her Crush Songs tour. “Mark My Words” comes from her self-titled third album, which she describes as “the most honest thing I’ve ever made; it’s very raw and is a contrast to what I’ve done in the past.”
