Song of the Day: Eleanor Friedberger - False Alphabet City

Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. Since stepping out from the Fiery Furnaces for a solo career, Eleanor Friedberger has continued to bloom as a singer/songwriter. It's been a couple of years since her acclaimed full-length Personal Record, but she returns this January 22nd with her third solo album, New View.

In anticipation of the new release, Friedberger has shared the stand-alone single "False Alphabet City." The track was written for the short film False Alphabets by visual artist Sara Magenheimer. Not only does Friedberger play the role of a New York City radio DJ in the movie, she later took Magenheimer's script and transformed it into songs, which she performed at a SOHO gallery hosting Magenheimer's residency. Today's Song of the Day became the theme for the film, which you can see footage of in the video below.
