Now into their second decade, Seattle band The Purrs have a restless energy that belies a band of their local stature. Well-versed in garage, psych, and alternative rock touchstones, the quartet's national tours and five full-lengths have shown that the band has only grown sharper with age. A four-minute cut of psych tinged, jangle-driven rock, "Rotting on the Vine" aims straight for the jugular. Eschewing anything that could be considered an intro, the band leaps straight into the verse, where lead singer Jima fires off sly lyrical barbs with a 1977-style snarl. Merged with a high-tension bridge and searing guitar solo, the song's slick verses and howled choruses keep the momentum going until the song cuts out, finishing with two appropriately-chosen words of studio banter: "That's all."
